Angling Awards Program Rules

  1. All applicants must be a member in good standing of the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association at the time the fish was caught.
  2. All entries must be caught by hook and line between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2022, in the Province of Manitoba in accordance with the Manitoba Angling Regulations.
  3. All entries must be made on the official entry form and must include the applicant’s name, address, birth date, phone number, email address, and the date and location where the fish was caught. Entry forms submitted by email do not require a signature but must be received directly from the email of the applicant.
  1. As per the Manitoba Angler’s Guide, total fish length is measured from the most anterior part of the head to the most posterior part of the tail laid flat (i.e. not pinched). The total length of the fish will be measured to the longest half centimetre.  (i.e. A fish measuring 25.0 to 25.4 cm will be recorded as 25.0 cm. A fish measuring 25.9 cm will be entered as 25.5 cm.)
  2. To qualify all entries must include a horizontal measurement photo of the entire length of the fish against a ruler, measuring tape, bump board or another measuring device that clearly shows the total length of the fish. Applicants should also include an “action” photo of themselves with the fish. Submitted photos must be a resolution of not less than 300 dpi. Electronic photos should be submitted in jpeg format at a minimum size of 1mb to allow for clear viewing. Thumbnail photos or photos that cannot be magnified to clearly show the length will not be accepted.
  1. Entries should be submitted as soon as possible after the catch but must be received before February 28, 2023 in order to qualify. Entries are to be submitted by mail or email to the LdB Wildlife Association Angling Director as indicated on the official entry form. A confirmation number will be supplied by email to confirm your application was received.
  2. All entries, including submitted photographs, become the property of the LdB Wildlife Association which reserves the right to use the photographs in their publications, website, social media and other means for promotional purposes. No compensation or remuneration of any kind will be paid for the use of any photograph or entry information.
  3. Entries will be accepted for all qualified species of fish as listed in the Manitoba Anglers Guide Master Angler Program. Fish do not need to be of Master Angler size to qualify for entry, and fish of any size may be entered.
  4. For each species entered, participants will have their name entered into a draw to win an Angling Package valued at over $300. You may enter as many times as you like for each species however, there will only be one draw entry given for each species.
  5. In addition to the prize draw, any LdB Wildlife member catching a Master Angler size qualifying fish will be awarded a special LdB Wildlife Certificate to commemorate their catch.
  6. Award Certificates will be given for the largest fish of each qualifying species. In addition, the largest entries for Northern Pike, Walleye, Perch, Smallmouth Bass, and Stocked Trout will have their names engraved on our club trophies for these species.
  7. One award will be given for the largest overall fish caught during 2021-2022 from any Manitoba qualifying species. The largest fish will be determined based on the percentage of the Manitoba Master Angler qualifying size though does not have to be Master Angler size to qualify.

Master Angler Sizes

Northern Pike: 104 cm

Walleye: 71 cm

Perch: 33 cm

Black Crappie: 30.5 cm

Smallmouth Bass: 46 cm

Common Carp: 76 cm

Scoring Example

If the largest fish of each species was 2.5 cm larger than Master Angler Size, they would receive the percentage scores as shown here.

In this example, the Black Crappie would be awarded the Prize as the Largest Overall Fish.

  1. Awards will be determined by the LdB Wildlife Association Board of directors. All decisions of the judges are final.
  2. Award certificates for Master Angler size qualifying species will be presented to entrants throughout the year. All other prizes will be presented at the Annual Awards Night or at a venue determined by the LdB Wildlife Association Board of Directors.

Special Youth Category

In addition to the above awards, the Lac du Bonnet Wildlife Association will also present awards for each qualifying species to youth anglers under 16 years of age whose parents or guardians are members of the LdB Wildlife Association at the time the fish was caught.

For each species entered, participants will have their name entered into a draw to win an Angling Package valued at over $300. You may enter as many times as you like for each species however, there will only be one draw entry given for each species.

Those catching a Master Angler size qualifying fish will be awarded a special LdB Wildlife Certificate as well as a special limited-edition LdB Wildlife fishing lure to commemorate their catch. All other rules above apply.

Entries must be made on the official entry form and are to include both the information of the youth angler and the name of the parent or guardian.

Little Loon Angling Club

To promote youth angling, the Little Loon Angling Club will commemorate the catching of a youth’s first fish. Those under 16 years of age whose parents or guardians are members of the LdB Wildlife Association at the time their first fish was caught will receive a certificate and a special limited-edition LdB Wildlife fishing lure to commemorate their catch. Simply send us a picture of the Little Loon Angler and the details of the catch on the application form, noting Little Loon Angling Club.

While there is no need to show sizes for this award, those that note the size of the fish on the application will have this recorded on the certificate for memory’s sake. All Little Loon Angling Club entries will also be entered into the youth prize draw noted above. Submitted photos will also be celebrated on our social media.
