Angling Awards Program

As announced in our newsletter, no Awards Night was held this in the spring of 2024. This decision was made due to the lack of entries to the various awards program and because of the number of projects we had on the go with the OEC and Ranges, the LDBWA Ponds and other activities. As a result, our awards program for the coming year will combine entries from 2023 and 2024. If you have not yet entered catches for 2023 you are still welcome to do so. If you previously entered a catch for 2023 your entry will be counted during this year, and you do not need to reapply.

Current Angling Awards Competition

Caught Between Jan 1, 2023 & Dec 31, 2024

Entry Deadline February 28, 2025

  1. As per the Manitoba Angler’s Guide, total fish length is measured from the most anterior part of the head to the most posterior part of the tail laid flat (i.e. not pinched). The total length of the fish will be measured to the longest half centimetre.  (i.e. A fish measuring 25.0 to 25.4 cm will be recorded as 25.0 cm. A fish measuring 25.9 cm will be entered as 25.5 cm.)
  2. To qualify all entries must include a horizontal measurement photo of the entire length of the fish against a ruler, measuring tape, bump board or another measuring device that clearly shows the total length of the fish. Applicants should also include an “action” photo of themselves with the fish. Submitted photos must be a resolution of not less than 300 dpi. Electronic photos should be submitted in jpeg format at a minimum size of 1mb to allow for clear viewing. Thumbnail photos or photos that cannot be magnified to clearly show the length will not be accepted.

Entries are to be submitted by mail or email to the LdB Wildlife Association Angling Director as indicated on the official entry form. A confirmation number will be supplied by email to confirm your application was received.
  2. All entries, including submitted photographs, become the property of the LdB Wildlife Association which reserves the right to use the photographs in their publications, website, social media and other means for promotional purposes. No compensation or remuneration of any kind will be paid for the use of any photograph or entry information.
  3. Entries will be accepted for all qualified species of fish as listed in the Manitoba Anglers Guide Master Angler Program. Fish do not need to be of Master Angler size to qualify for entry, and fish of any size may be entered.
  4. For each species entered, participants will have their name entered into a draw to win an Angling Package valued at over $300. You may enter as many times as you like for each species however, there will only be one draw entry given for each species.
  5. In addition to the prize draw, any LdB Wildlife member catching a Master Angler size qualifying fish will be awarded a special LdB Wildlife Certificate to commemorate their catch.
  6. Award Certificates will be given for the largest fish of each qualifying species. In addition, the largest entries for Northern Pike, Walleye, Perch, Smallmouth Bass, and Stocked Trout will have their names engraved on our club trophies for these species.
  7. One award will be given for the largest overall fish caught during the award season from any Manitoba qualifying species. The largest fish will be determined based on the percentage of the Manitoba Master Angler qualifying size though does not have to be Master Angler size to qualify.
